D&B Engineers and Architects, P.C. has long been a proud supporter of Friends Academy, a coeducational, independent, college-preparatory school founded in 1876, and has also helped sponsor the annual Friends Academy Gala fundraising event. In 2020, the event was reimagined to meet the challenges of this pandemic year, by way of becoming a creative, virtual event. The event, entitled “A Night in with Friends – A Virtual Evening of Performances and Humor,” was held on Thursday, May 21.

The virtual event included a live-streamed video presentation, student performances and highlights of the community’s response to COVID-19. Proceeds from the event were dedicated to the Friends Academy Community Assistance Fund to offer support to the community during this challenging period.

Rich and Alexia Walka

D&B Senior Vice President Rich Walka and wife Alexia have led D&B’s support of Friends Academy. Rich commented, “D&B is proud to support Friends Academy and its commitment to learning, community, service and stewardship. This year required a great deal of creativity and innovation to make the virtual evening a success. D&B believes that the human spirit rises to the occasion during difficult times such as these. We commend the educators at Friends Academy for their dedication and their commitment, and the students for their enthusiastic participation. D&B is pleased to support organizations like Friends Academy whose contributions to community and culture have such an important and lasting impact.”

In addition to supporting and sponsoring fundraising events for the school, D&B has participated in educational programs and student learning opportunities including the 2019 Basement Redesign Project.
