Dix Hills Fire Department Open House On October 30

Dix Hills, NY USA……One of the most fascinating and important family events in the greater Dix Hills community is the annual Dix Hills Fire Department Fire Prevention Open House. Tours of the firehouse, ambulances and fire trucks are just the beginning of the free festivities. Held Sunday, October 30, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the DHFD Training Facility (590 Deer Park Avenue), the event features live firefighter and rescue cut and burn demonstrations, including deployment of the “jaws of life” to pry open a wrecked car, and demonstrations of how firefighters handle building/home fires.

Educational safety measures like Stop, Drop and Roll, First Aid and EMT emergency treatment tips  will be taught, which could prove invaluable in real life situations. Attendees will also learn about DHFD safety and assistance programs including the Child Safety Car Seat program and free Community CPR courses.

There’s more, like candy and giveaways for the kids who can trick or treat in or out of costume, and free blood pressure checks for everyone. And if you ever wanted to know how to how to operate a real fire hose, this is the place to learn from the pros!

The Dix Hills Fire Department Open House is also an opportunity to recognize the importance of these essential front line services first hand, and to appreciate the need for community volunteers to join the ranks.
